To the Trenches and Back Again…Or… A Day in the Life of a Core Phase Mom

Last night you were up late planning how great your day was going to be. You had
it all planned in your head. Breakfast was going to e served, kids dressed and
hair done all before 8 am. Then a wonderful devotional where the kids were going
to ask questions. Then a nice quiet reading time where the kids would colour
peacefully while you read. Then a wonderfully inspiring Math Lesson, a healthy
lunch of organic vegetables in a salad with dressing you made yourself, then
onto a nature walk to learn about and point out plants and wild herbs.

Alas you were up late planning your day and slept in until 8am. The kids have
gotten up before you and the kitchen is a disaster zone because they tried to
feed themselves. You try to get everyone dressed but no laundry was done so no
one has any clean underwear. You need to do a load of laundry before anyone can
get dressed. You are not discouraged by this because you are going to do there
hair….if you can only find the brush. After a frantic 15 minute search you
find it in the drawer under the stove. (Since when do we keep it there?) That is
when you notice that child #3 put oatmeal in child #4 hair, so they need a bath.
After the bath, load of laundry and putting the house back together searching
for the brush it is time for lunch. You offer your nice and lovely salad and no
one will eat it. So to feed the hungry you decide to give in and feed them
peanut butter and jam sandwiches on white bread.
The Nature walk is going to have to wait.
You have a n incredibly quick devotional because child #1 and #2 have decided it
is wrestle mania IV and have tussled so much they knocked over the lamp and it
shatters.
So when that mess is cleaned up you decide a good homeschooling mom reads to her
kids. But you try to be one step ahead and make popcorn in the hopes that it
will keep there hands and mouths busy while you read.
But #6 knocks his bowl of popcorn into #$4’s lap and a slight food fight begins.
It is interesting just how much a piece of buttered and salted popcorn can sting
when it is hurtled into your eye.
Maybe it is time to go outside for your nature walk. One problem #4 can’t find
her shoes, and #2 can not find any socks. You get 2 socks a pink one and a green
one and give it to #2. Then the frantic search begins. Finally the shoe is
found, outside buried in the sand box.
But it is now time to get dinner ready if you are to eat before 7.
Then on to planning tomorrow…perhaps a daytimer will help…?…
